Communist Party members in Devon took part in all three rallies in the county over the weekend.

CP flag on the seafront at Torquay

Over one hundred copies of the special May Day Unity! were distributed to the public and forty copies of the Morning Star were sold.

In Plymouth the party had a stall at the busy May Day festival held at Devonport Guildhall. A new banner was made for the event. Unfortunately, due to a lack of wall space, the banner ended up as a tablecloth!

In Exeter Devon County Council election candidate (for Barnstaple North) Gerrard Sables addressed the crowd in Bedford Square at the event organised by the Exeter Anti-Cuts alliance.

On Sunday around 35 people assembled on the seafront in Torquay. Tim Gulliver, South Devon Branch member, warned the activists not to forget the true nature of the government's agenda.

"What we are seeing isn't an attempt to reduce the deficit," he told the crowd. "The NHS reforms, school academy programme, even the welfare cuts do nothing to reduce the deficit. What we are witnessing is the complete dismantling of the public sector and the privatising of everything Thatcher left behind".
