Below is a selection of articles relevant to the broader left in the South West and Cornwall. These are not necessarily Communist Party events or news stories, but are collected here as they reflect the actions of people in our district.

 

 

The campaign against reductions to our acute hospital services is ongoing. The public

consultations began on 1st Dec and go on until the 28th Feb. Details of how you can be

involved with the consultation go to dorsetforyou.gov.uk.

KONP have produced a very good guide of what to say in answer to each question,

this can be viewed on their website: www.keepournhspublicdorset.com They are also

producing some very good press releases.

The 38 degrees petition started by Sean Perrin 'Save Poole Hospital A&E and

Maternity' has attracted 20,000+ signatures. The Dorset CCG have confirmed to Sean

that it will be taken into consideration along with the public consultation docs. This

petition is due to be handed into a rep from the Dorset CCG on Monday 27th Feb,

time and place tbc. Details will be put on the Save Poole Hospital facebook page and

emailed to supporters. Maximum publicity required, all supporters need to get along

with placards and banners.

We will continue to do street stalls to gain signatures to the petition and more

importantly chat to the public about not accepting any reductions in NHS services,

back the NHS Reinstatment Bill, and build for the Health Campaigns Together march

and rally in London on the 4th March.

-16th January Monday 7.30-9.30pm Cricketers Arms Bournemouth. Sheila and Haydn

met with the local Positive Money group to talk about the work of the DPA. Good

contact made, & hope to work together in the future

-20th January (?), 6-8.00pm spontaneous demo in Bournemouth 'Dump the Trump'

30+ turned out on a wet evening.

-21st January Saturday 12pm 'Women's March' London Grosvenor Square, on the day

after the inauguration of D Trump, a few people locally went.

-1st Feb Poole Lighthouse 'Devil Rides to Jarama' Townsend Theatre production. Very

positive feedback, good social event which is important.

23rd Feb 7.00pm Stop the War Coalition Bournemouth public meeting. The

Brunswick, Charminster. National officer Ian Chamberlain is coming down from

London to talk about 'A more Dangerous World? War and Foreign Policy under

Trump'

-2nd March Poole lighthouse screening of film Girl-Rising

-4th March Saturday 12pm London, Tavistock Square. Health Campaigns Together/

KONP/People's Assembly march to Parliament Square for rally. Dorset Unison are

putting on a coach, contact Manda Brown 01305 224436 for details and to book a

place.

-10th March 7.30 -10pm Corn Exchange Dorchester Stolen Lives- Despair on our

Doorstep. Public meeting about immigration detention. Speaker Giles Fraser

Organised by West and South Dorset Green Party.

-12th March Chaplins, Boscombe Housing Co-op Meeting (Timings Tina?)

-18th March 'Rebellious Women' 2-5pm URC Skinner Street Poole. Afternoon of

celebrating women who have stood up for social justice and political reform.

-18th March London 12-4 'March against Racism'

3rd June Christchurch Radical Book Fair, Wessex Solidarity/IWW. Day long and into

the evening event with stalls, talks and entertainment. £10 per table. Details will be

available shortly.

- #DorsetHour is available to promote events on twitter between 7.30-8.30pm on a

Monday evening. They have 17,000 followers so useful platform.

-The regular Friday 2-5.30pm Save Poole Hosp demo in front of Poole Hospital Longfleet Road has now come to an end. -Swanage Protection Camp. Planning permission expired on the 3rd December. Great work by the anti-fracking camp who set up on the land to prevent any work by the gas company. The camp has now been dismantled. 19th Nov Saturday 12noon-3.00pm. Street Stall Bournemouth Square 'Save Our Hospital Services' to highlight the proposed reductions in our health services, get more signatures on the petition. Veterans for Peace joined us so that we had a Welfare not Warfare theme. Collected numerous signatures and handed out leaflets about the STP. Worthwhile exercise. We'll be doing similar event in Poole 17th Dec. The campaign against reductions to our hospital services. There have been a number of public council meetings in Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth that members of KONP Dorset have been attending and putting questions to the boards about the Clinical Services Review and Sustainability and Transformation Plan.
